One of my all-time most-treasured albums. The raw soul-baring nature of these songs is deeply touching. The contemplative, soulful delivery of the lyrics combined with the progressive folk-flavoured music is pure magic. Green Carnation evoke deep empathy from my own being, here. Wonderful song structures & touching acoustic guitar abound. This is a journey for the soul steeped in deep emotions. A genuine masterpiece with worthy add-ons. Thanks, GC! 9+/10.

Back in 2006, Norwegian progressive metal band GREEN CARNATION surprised everyone with an all acoustic record. The album represents a very special step in the band's progressive career, as they combined the warmer and softer sound of an unplugged set with their earlier established progressive style and melancholic mood. From the folky influences of "Alone" to the dark vibrations of "Sweet Leaf", the record is brimming with raw emotional power that only a few bands master.

By early 2006, Norway’s GREEN CARNATION had released four studio albums and an EP in five years — including their breakout
masterwork, 2001’s Light of Day, Day of Darkness. After a 10 year hiatus, the band returned to the international metal scene in 2016 and released their album for 14 years in Leaves of Yesteryear in 2020.

Ne Obliviscaris quickly became my favorite metal band and probably my favorite band actively making music. Equus is an absolute banger of an opener. Saw them live in the US finally last year too.
