Swedish black metal group This Gift Is a Curse don't play their music so much as use it to unleash an unrelenting assault on their audience. Incorporating elements of death metal, sludge, doom, ambience, and noise, This Gift Is a Curse make recordings that are full of artfully assembled complexity and precise rhythms, even when the finished product sounds like the cacophonous howling of damned souls to the uninitiated. The group's uncompromising sonic bombardment appeared fully formed on their debut album, 2012's I, Guilt Bearer, and gained refinement and greater detail on 2015's All Hail the Swinelord and 2025's Heir without robbing it of its thunderous impact.
