This is the most "solid" sounding 1349 record to date, thanks to some good old-fashioned heavy metal riffing amongst the trademark BM and blackened thrash. So the songs are more memorable, and I find my favorite switching with each listen, a good sign. Add in some legit blazing solos, a few clean tones, and a touch of Celtic Frost-type atmosphere, and you have a well-rounded record that rewards repeat listens.

1349 are back with what they do best. Ravn is at the top of his vocal game, the guitars are relentless (with wild lead parts-the guitar solo is rare in black metal) and Frost provides the necessary avalanches of percussion. Great album.

The first album is already a very good one, but the second is even better! It contains again nature black metal, quite melodic, but also wild, with some folkloristic elements, full of atmosphere and performed with passion. For me, BLACKBRAID fits well into the same category as other epic one man bands like Saor, Ruadh or Pure Wrath. Besides the catchy and quite straight opener "The Spirit returns", I mention the mightiest track "Moss covered Bones on the Altar of the Moon" as my favourite song!
